I work on big problems, largely in tech but not exclusive to it.
Right now I’m an Assistant Professor of Practice in Urban Technology at the University of Michigan, where I teach service design and help students think about cities as complex systems. Previously, I was Head of Design at 18F, the U.S. government’s digital consultancy, and have spent two decades working between information architecture, service design & advising senior leaders. Recently, I organized the Portland Digital Corps and in 2024, organized Design For the Public conference. I am an ex-oficio board member & past president of AIGA Portland.
I’m especially interested in how technology is used to mediate trust and what it's doing to civic life.
I occasionally shares updates on MY now-ish page.
